South Koreans to Build One of Europe’s Largest Energy Storage Systems in Poland PGE Group has chosen LG Energy Solution Wrocław as the general contractor for the Żarnowiec battery energy storage system (BESS), a significant step towards enhancing Poland’s renewable energy capacity. Key highlights: • Power and capacity: Up to 263 MW of power and a minimum capacity of at least 900 MWh. • Investment cost: PLN 1.55 billion (~€342 million), equating to PLN 1.72 million (€380,000) per MWh. • Competing bid: Submitted by Corab, priced at PLN 2.4 billion (~€529 million), or PLN 2.67 million (€590,000) per MWh. • Location: Pomeranian Voivodeship, near Poland’s largest pumped-storage power plant and future offshore wind farms. • Purpose: To balance power from onshore and offshore wind farms and enhance the stability of the electricity grid.
